Law Enforcement Traffic Safety Advisory Council

THE LETSAC CONFERENCE
The LETSAC Conference is held annually and provides an opportunity for traffic safety professionals to review current issues, discuss technology and new concepts, share challenges and successes, identify trends in impaired driving, speed, occupant protection, and other relevant issues. Training activities provide continuing education and the latest information for law enforcement.

The 2025 Conference is scheduled for July 21 - 2025, 2025 at the Wyndham (formerly Holiday Inn) Executive Center in Columbia.

REGIONAL TRAINING
LETSAC also provides regional training activities on current events, contemporary issues in traffic safety, and requested topics. We value the input of the agencies we work with and strive to create training activities relevant to today's law enforcement traffic safety issues.

LETSAC has held Regional Trainings on CMV and has another coming up in April:

On behalf of the Law Enforcement Traffic Safety Advisory Council (LETSAC) and the MoDOT Highway Safety and Traffic Division, I’m pleased to announce the following training opportunity for all law enforcement officers throughout the State of Missouri. (This will be the third opportunity of this training. The previous two were hosted in December 2024 in O’Fallon and Warrensburg.)
This 2-hour Missouri POST certified training will be free and hosted in-person by Sgt. Matthew Goodson with the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Troop D.
CMV Traffic Enforcement for the Road Officer
Enforcing traffic laws against a commercial motor vehicle (CMV) can be intimidating to an officer, especially for one who has not received CMV or CDL-related special training. It’s a challenge shared by many local law enforcement officers without specific training in this area. As a road officer, the easy option is to focus on passenger vehicles and leave CMV violations for the Highway Patrol and other CMV/CDL-trained experts. But traffic violations committed by CMVs significantly heighten the risks to the safety of road users, including the CMV driver.
Through this training, officers will learn about: violations that cause crashes; safety concerns before, during, and after vehicle stops; documentation requirements; indicators of severe vehicle defects; and specific citation procedures. Officers will also understand the importance of conducting regular enforcement of commercial motor vehicles. Officers will learn about Missouri specific statutes and rules regarding commercial motor vehicles. And, officers will learn what kind of violations and citations they can write on their own and when to call a commercial motor vehicle expert for assistance.
